Most enquiries that do not book the first time are not a no. They got busy, compared prices or forgot. A short, polite follow-up over 14 days brings a share of them back, and it costs nothing once it runs on its own.
How many follow-up messages should you send?
Five messages over 14 days is a good default: day 0, day 1, day 3, day 7 and day 14. Stop immediately if they reply, book or ask you to stop. Fewer than three and you give up too early. More than six starts to feel like pressure.
The five messages
Day 0, within 60 seconds: Hi {first name}, thanks for reaching out to [Business]! What is the best time for a quick call? Or grab a time here: [link]
Day 1: Hi {first name}, just checking you saw my message. Happy to answer any questions before you book. [link]
Day 3: Hi {first name}, we still have openings this week. Want me to hold one for you?
Day 7: Hi {first name}, is this still something you need help with? A quick yes or no is perfect.
Day 14: Hi {first name}, I will close your request for now. If anything changes, reply here and we will take care of you.
Why does the "yes or no" message work?
A direct, low-effort question gives people permission to answer without committing. Many people who ignored three friendly nudges will reply "not now" or "yes, still need it", and both are useful. The final "closing your request" message often gets replies for the same reason.
Text, WhatsApp or email?
Use the channel they contacted you on first. In the US, UK, Canada and Australia that is usually text or email. In the Gulf, much of Europe and Asia, WhatsApp is often the better channel. Read our WhatsApp vs SMS guide.
Follow-up is the cheapest growth lever most local businesses are not using: the leads are already paid for.
